Snooker Legend Stephen Hendry announces retirement at World Championships
Snooker Legend Stephen Hendry has announced his retirement from snooker, following his exit from the world championships last night.
The Scott was looking for a record eighth world title to add to the impressive 36 wins he has racked up throughout his career but instead found himself on the wrong end of a 13-2 thrashing by Stephen Maguire.
But Hendry insisted that even if he had gone on to win the tournament, it was always going to be his last appearance at the crucible, a decision he made three months previously.
He said:"I didn't tell many people [before the tournament], but this is me finished from tournament snooker."
"It's a sad day that I won't play here [at the Crucible] again, I love playing here but it's a relief as much as anything,"
"I want to do other things now. I've got a lot of commitments now in China, which I've signed up for and I can't do that and play snooker because I would never be at home."
