Sir Alex Ferguson has confirmed Manchester United have made a bid for the services of Robin Van Persie but the Gunners are holding firm over their valuation for their captain.
Having admitted to wanting to leave the North Londoners, the 28 year old has been left out of Arsenals pre-season tour of Asia as it is believed Gunners boss Arsene Wenger wants Van Persies future to be resolved so it doesn't effect his teams preparations.
Fergie faces stiff competition from Manchester City and Juventus to sign last seasons Premier league Golden Boot award (30 goals) and is rumoured his £20million bid is £10-15million short of Arsenals valuation.
Ferguson told MUFCTV "Obviously Arsenal have given out the fact that we've made a bid for him. There are other clubs interested in the player. We've shown an interest and that's where we're at at the moment."
A number of Manchester United fans would love to see the dutch forward turn out for the reds. Jack Le Ray @DreadnCircuses tweeted "RVP, not known for his pace, would be an excellent signing for Manchester United, given their ability to prolong careers well into late 30s" and BBCRadio contributor Michael Clarke @MClarkeShow tweeted "Dear Santa, I'm hoping by asking now I stand a better chance of this happening... RVP to United please... cheers big lad :)"
Van Persie who only has a year left on his contract, exodus was rumoured by the signings of Lukas Podolski and Olivier Giroud but Arsenal fans are not happy about their captain fantastic leaving.
You Are My Arsenal @YouAreMyArsenal tweeted"Selling RvP to ManU would probably be one of the few things that would actually make me consider protesting the club. #Arsenal" and S Samuel posted via twitter @Arsenalman2011 "If I was #Kroenke I will make a stand & prove a point by not selling #RVP to local Rivals at any cost! #Arsenal"
