London 2012 - Ex-USA coach Bruce Arena backs David Beckham to make Team GB squad despite poor show in front of Pearce
Bruce Arena, the ex-America national team coach, believes that David Beckham will find form before the London 2012 Olympic football tournament and has urged Stuart Pearce to select the former Real Madrid, AC Milan and Manchester United player.
Pearce, who has been tasked with managing Team GB's side at the games, is allowed to select only three players over the age of 23 in his squad, and flew over to America to watch Beckham play in the Major Soccer League at the weekend.
However, 37-year-old Beckham failed to impress on Sunday night at home, as his side flopped to a 1-0 defeat to New York Red Bulls. It was Galaxy's fifth loss in only nine games.
But Arena, speaking to The Daily Mirror, said: "David is determined to make the Olympic squad. It's very important to him. He's passionate about it and is working hard towards it. I'm sure he can make it.
"His form has been good and we had Stuart Pearce out here to see him play but he, like the rest of the team, needs things to go his way so he can get back towards being at the top of his game."
