Liverpool agree fee for Fabio Borini

Brendan Rodgers has made his first signing as Liverpool boss with the capture of Fabio Borini from Roma after the clubs agreed a fee reputed to be around the £11 Million mark.

21-year-old Borini joins the staff at Anfield after a successful season for Roma which saw him score 9 goals in 24 appearances, and will fly out to America to be part of Liverpool’s pre-season tour if he passes a medical.

Borini started his career at Bologna, the club he supported as a child, before moving to Chelsea’s youth academy. Chelsea sent the youngster out on loan to Swansea City where he made an immediate impact, scoring 6 goals in only 9 appearances, including winning the penalty that ultimately saw Swansea promoted back to the Premier League in the play-off final.

Borini played under Brendan Rodgers at both Chelsea where he was youth team coach, and Swansea. He also represented Italian youth teams from U16 all the way through to U21’s and has one cap for the senior team, in a friendly against the United States. Borini was recently part of the Italian Euro 2012 squad, but did not play a game.

Borini will add to Rodgers’ attacking options, which already feature the likes of Luis Suarez, Craig Bellamy and Andy Carroll, though there has been recent speculation that Carroll may be loaned out.

Borini’s capture has been received somewhat dubiously by the Liverpool faithful, with many wondering whether the large price tag is too much for a relatively unknown player.

Muyiwa Lawal (@ameendakid) posted on Twitter ‘Liverpool and all these unknowns they chase...who be fabio borini again?’

London Ivy (@london_ivy) tweeted ‘Fabio Borini yea?? Ok, ok, I don't know much about him, but I'm hoping he's as good as his name sounds. Lol’

Alan Shearer (@alanshearer_) reckons ‘Liverpool have got an outstanding player in Fabio Borini. Another player Chelsea should of never let go. #LFC #CFC’ according to his Twitter account.

And for the ladies, MostarLFC (@Mostarlfc) tweeted ‘One interesting Photo of our soon-to-be new boy Fabio Borini for Ladies :) http://twitpic.com/a72b1w ‪#LFC’
