Kentucky fans riot after defeating Louisville in college basketball’s Final Four
Having beaten Louisville 67-59 to be crowned NCAA basketball champions, University of Kentucky fans swarmed the streets in celebration. It quickly escalated, however, as couches and cars were set ablaze, before a man was wounded in an apparent shooting.
Police in riot gear were called to patrol the area and spray fire extinguishers on fans who attempted to damage vehicles.
Authorities had already warned fans that any vandalism would result in immediate arrests, but this did not deter the revelers.
A freshman who witnessed the events said “They try to flip a car. Police push them off and they try to flip another one”.
Kentucky fans were clearly pleased with the unexpected result, but perhaps a quiet drink in celebration would have been more appropriate.
