Fiorentina coach Rossi sacked after dugout assault on Ljajic
Fiorentina coach (or should I say former Fiorentina coach) Delio Rossi was sacked by Fiorentina straight after last night's (May 2) game against Novara, after physically assaulting midfielder Adem Ljajic.
Tempers boiled over after Ljajic voiced his displeasure at being substituted in the 32nd minute, which led to Rossi leaning into the dugout and pushing the Serb hard in the chest.
Fiorentina president Andrea Della Valle said in a statement on the club's official website: "In a few seconds months of stress came out. I am sorry because the coach has never committed acts of this kind. For his own good to make him understand he has made a mistake, I had to take this decision. No provocation justifies this reaction."
Della Valle also confirmed that Ljajic would not escape punishment for his part in the fracas and also that the club would wait to announce just who would take charge of the side for the rest of the season.
