Spurs seal permanent Adebayor deal
Andre Villas Boas has made his third signing as Tottenham manager, securing the services of Emmanuel Adebayor on a permanent deal.
The Togolese striker has signed from Manchester City for an undisclosed fee after impressing at the club on a loan deal last year, following Gylfi Sigurdsson and Jan Vertonghen through the door at White Hart Lane as Villas Boas looks to strengthen his squad.
After enjoying a loan spell at Spurs during the 2011/12 season, scoring 18 goals in 37 appearances, Adebayor announced his intentions on his Twitter account on May 21st: “Loved my spell at Tottenham. We are working hard with the chairman to make it permanent. Will keep you informed!!”
It appears that the striker has got his wish with personal terms the only obstacle to conquer before he can be officially regarded as a Tottenham player.
Adebayor was brought to England by Tottenham’s arch rivals Arsenal in 2006. He went on to score 45 goals in 105 appearances for the Gunners before sealing a big-money move to Manchester City in a deal thought to be worth £25million in 2009. After netting on his league debut, he scored 15 goals in 34 appearances but began to move down the pecking order as City began to splash the cash. After a loan move at Real Madrid wasn’t made permanent, the Togolese striker was loaned out to Tottenham where he found a new lease of life under Harry Redknapp as the club enjoyed a season which at stages threatened a title challenge.
Spurs fan Matt Hull is excited about the potential arrivals at White Hart Lane with highly-rated French goalkeeper Hugo Lloris also being linked with a Spurs move: “Really excited to hear; 1) Adebayor is about to sign 2) We are in for Lloris & should sign 3) There's another big Signing to come soon#COYS” he tweeted.
“I'd like, Adebayor, *new striker, and Coulibaly and Kane as options. Defoe can go if he wishes, never going to be first choice” tweeted Citizen Saggers, another Spurs fan commenting on the striker situation.
Tottenham fans can expect a busy month or so before the season starts with rumours of more incomings and outgoings before their first fixture against Newcastle United. Porto stars Hulk and Joao Moutinho are rumoured to be interesting Villas-Boas but he may lose Luka Modric and Rafael Van der Vaart as the rumour mill continues to revolve at the Lane.
