'The Olympic Athletes Hub': All the Olympians in one place
If you want to keep up to date with all your favourite Olympians and see how their preparations or celebrations are going, the official Olympic website has set up a hub that allows you to do so.
‘The Olympic Athletes Hub’, which can be found at http://hub.olympic.org/home/ and is an offshoot of the official Olympic website, tracks all the athletes competing at the Olympic games that use social media to keep fans up to date, and has a search engine that enables fans to find links to their favourite stars.
The website also has all the latest updates from the games, and allows social media users to utilise the length and breadth of the Social Media world and its relation to the historic events of the London 2012 Olympic games.
Athletes such as LeBron James, Kobe Bryant, Roger Federer, Usain Bolt, Maria Sharapova and Michael Phelps all have millions of fans on the website already, and as the Olympics go on more and more fans will sign up.
There has been a debate as to whether the London 2012 games are the first Social Media Olympics, or whether Vancouver’s 2010 Winter Olympics were. However with such support online for athletes, it seems that these games will be the first with such a strong social media legacy.
