Former Cardiff City striker has announced via Twitter that he will be moving to MLS outfit Toronto FC.
The Wales forward posted several tweets announcing the news, he said; "Breaking news:I have now signed and officially a @Torontofc Player.
"Season starts this Saturday. Now on the plane flying to Vancouver for the opening game.
"I want to thank my home town club Cardiff City,I had the best fun playing in front of the Fans from the age of 16 until now.
"I leave with a heavy heart from Cardiff City. I hope we created memories and I tried to give everything I had when I played. I will remember the journey that we went through."
Earnshaw's first tweet breaking the news received the most reaction via Twitter, with over 250 retweets, 37 favourites, and many comments from Cardiff City fans congratulating him for his move to the MLS and even Toronto FC fans welcoming Earnshaw to their club.
The new Toronto FC striker also made another important announcement on his Facebook account, saying; "I will let a Toronto fan become admin to keep us up to date with Earnies progress in the MLS". This received 17 likes, and some Cardiff City fans such as Kurt Harding commented on the post with his regrets of his move away from the Bluebirds and posted; "earnie was my idol growing up f***ing legend".
The former Bluebirds striker was allowed to take in a loan spell at Israeli side Maccabi Tel Aviv towards the end of last year, as he wasn't getting enough games at his hometown club Cardiff City, and was allowed to return to Cardiff in the New Year.
He began his career at Cardiff at 16, and returned to the South Wales club in July 2011 after Nottingham Forest let him go as a free transfer.
Toronto FC is a well-established club in the MLS, and their popularity increased early this year after Ryan Nelsen joined the Vancouver club as manager. The club has nearly 75,000 likes on Facebook, 234 followers on Pinterest, over 3,500 followers on Instagram, and over 35,000 followers on Twitter and are sure to gain a few more Welsh fans following Earnshaw’s move.
