Premier League leaders Manchester City have announced that they have swapped current kit manufacturers Umbro for Nike.
Starting in the 2013/14 season, City’s new deal with Nike will end a four-year association with Umbro.
However, next season will see the last year that Umbro supplies the kits for City, before Nike’s contract will run until 2019.
Understandably, the chance to kit out the Champions of any nation is a fantastic opportunity, recognised by Nike’s President Charlie Denson.
Denson said: “We’re excited by the opportunity to further develop the relationship between City and Nike Inc, which builds on the successful partnership the club has already enjoyed with Umbro, and reflects both the ambitions of the club and the Nike brand’s position within the world of football.”
This decision accompanies the introduction of Financial Fair Play that will see teams having to monitor spending from 2013/14.
If clubs exceed limits in place and cannot maintain their annual income, they are threatened with expulsion from European competition. City will be no exception to this rule.
